窓の外には、銀河の暗黒が広がっている。
星々の帯はまるで凍結した河のように遠く、沈黙していた。
建設責任区画――。
巨大な立体投影が空間に浮かび上がっている。
それは未来都市モーヴの設計図だった。
幾何学的な塔群。

「そう。
伝承によれば、遥か旧時代、惑星エアルトに存在した“エウロパ”という地域の港湾都市を模倣して造られた、と伝わっている。」
ラムダは低く続けた。
「私はかつて、そのエウロパ市の伝承を継いでいると言われるアスクシオン市に、ドーラ・ウェーブと養子アルケーを連れ、この都市へ逃げ込んだ。」

「いや。」
ラムダは首を横に振る。
「失敗“させられた”。」
ヒューの背筋に寒気が走る。
「私は彼らを観察した。

すべて揃っていた。」
ラムダはモーヴ都市図の中央を指差した。
「それでも崩壊した。
なぜだと思う？」
ヒューは答えられない。
ラムダの目が、暗い銀河の彼方を見つめていた。
「“時間”だ。」
「……時間？」
「人間は空間を支配できても、歴史の流速は制御できない。
反乱軍は勝利条件だけを考えた。
だがフェーズ・オルタナは、敗北後の心理変化まで設計していた。」
ラムダは苦々しく笑った。
「その時、私は理解した。
国家とは軍隊ではない。
人類文明そのものが巨大な確率波動なのだと。」
空間に無数の数式が浮かぶ。
クロノ・ブルーム。
人類未来予測理論。
銀河文明全体を統計力学として扱う禁断の学問。
ヒューは息を呑んだ。
「つまりアスクシオン市の事件が……」
「そうだ。
クロノ・ブルーム完成への最初の鍵だった。」
ラムダはさらに低い声になる。
「だが本当の問題は、その後だ。」
彼の表情が変わった。
恐怖に近い陰。

The central sector of the migrant fleet heading toward the planet Neo Aether was silent.
The young historian Hugh Donnack stood frozen in awe at the sight before him.
Beyond the window stretched the darkness of the galaxy.
The belts of stars looked like frozen rivers, distant and silent.
Construction Authority Sector.
A gigantic holographic projection floated through the air.
It was the blueprint of the future city, Mauve.
Geometric towers.
Spiral information corridors.
A translucent climate-control membrane covering the entire metropolis.
Young historian Hugh Donnack gazed upward at the structure and whispered in disbelief.

The story now returns to the moment just before Hugh departed for Planet Neo Aether.

Before Hugh’s departure, an old man silently smiled while pointing toward the brilliantly glowing urban hologram.

Once called the greatest mathematician in the Galactic Federation.
But now, in his eyes rested a weariness beyond mathematics.
“You see, Hugh… a city is not architecture.
It is memory.
Unfortunately, however, I will never witness that sight with my own eyes.”
Lambda stepped closer to the projection space.
The luminous streets shifted and transformed into another city model.
It was an ancient city—Asuxion City.
Its harbor district branched into a peculiar Y-shaped structure.
“This shape…”
“Yes. According to legend, it was modeled after a harbor city in a region called Europa, which existed on the ancient planet Eart.”
Lambda continued in a low voice.
“I once fled to this city together with Dora Wave and my adopted child, Arche.”
Hugh stared at him in shock.
“Fled…?”
“At that time, Planet Lilinas stood on the verge of collapse.
The Supreme Chancellor had become an empty idol, and real power had concentrated in the hands of Chancellor Phase Alterna.”
The moment that name was spoken, the atmosphere in the room seemed to grow colder.
Phase Alterna.
The mysterious chancellor who repeatedly appeared behind the scenes throughout twenty thousand years of Galactic Imperial history.
No one had ever seen him age.
No one knew anything about his private life.
And no one could explain where he had come from.

Lambda pointed toward the center of the Mauve city projection.
“And yet it collapsed.
Do you know why?”
Hugh could not answer.
Lambda’s eyes stared into the distant darkness of the galaxy.
“Time.”
“…Time?”
“Humans may control space, but they cannot control the velocity of history itself.
The rebels focused only on the conditions for victory.
But Phase Alterna had already designed the psychological transformation that would occur after defeat.”
Lambda gave a bitter smile.
“That was when I understood.
A nation is not merely an army.
Human civilization itself is a vast probabilistic wave.”
Countless equations appeared in the air.

The forbidden discipline that treated the entirety of galactic civilization as statistical mechanics.

The temperature in the room suddenly dropped.
Hugh turned around.
Standing there was a tall man.
A black coat.
Calm eyes.
And an unnervingly perfect smile.

The man Hugh had once met on his homeworld, Nackcell.

El Wooter.
And once known as Chancellor Phase Alterna himself.
“Lambda.”
His voice was calm.
“That is far enough.”
Lambda Griss’s expression hardened.
Hugh panicked.
“Mr. Homogene? Mr. El Wooter!?
Why are you here…?!”
El Wooter did not answer.
He simply walked forward in silence.
There was not the slightest trace of human hesitation in his eyes.
“You still do not understand, Hugh Donnack.”
His voice was low.
“Civilization cannot be sustained by truth alone.”
Lambda spat bitterly.
“…So it really was you.”
El Wooter smiled faintly.
“I have merely been tuning history so that it does not collapse.”
At that moment, Hugh understood.
The rebellion at Asuxion City.
Chrono Bloom.
Phase Alterna.
And twenty thousand years of galactic history.
They were not separate events.
All of them had been arranged by an invisible intelligence that had endured since the distant past.
And now, those who had touched that secret—
